The firm of Weir Bowen was formed in April of 1990 by lawyers who had been practicing primarily in the area of civil litigation (including medical malpractice litigation for plaintiffs) for many years. The number of lawyers of Weir Bowen who practice in the area of medical malpractice litigation has increased over the years.
There are now eight lawyers in the malpractice group of Weir Bowen LLP (John A. Weir, Q.C., Joseph V. Miller, Alan R. Gray, Sheila J. Torrance, Philip G. Kirman, David N. deVere, Paulette M. DeKelver, and Mark A. Smith). This is one of the largest groups of lawyers (within one firm in Canada) who advise and represent plaintiffs in medical malpractice litigation.
The lawyers in the malpractice group of Weir Bowen LLP have advised and represented plaintiffs in medical malpractice actions in Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and British Columbia and have been counsel in cases that have set precedents on medical malpractice issues in the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and the Courts of Appeal of Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
The malpractice group of Weir Bowen LLP utilizes a team approach, meeting regularly to discuss the medical and legal issues involved in medical malpractice and product liability litigation, and to make decisions about potential actions on which we have been consulted and actions that we are investigating and prosecuting.
